    This is GREAT! My parents ran into the same problem with me.  I could not read and they fought tooth and nail to get me labeled (I have Dyslexia) and to get me the help I needed.  Luckily the school eventually listened to my parents.  My father has 2 PhDs and my mother has an MSW and they were both Social workers so they knew what was going on.  Finally they did test me and i did get the help i needed.  I am greatful to the public schools for the help i recieved even though at the begining it was difficult to find the proper help.

    Oh my…. this hits too close to home. In my case, my son has an IEP and didn’t transition well to middle school. From the first week of school, the AP and teacher both kept repeating Don’t worry, he will do fine, give us time… and the AP added that she ‘promised’ it will get better… 8 months into the school year, two FBAs, one useless BIP and another in the process, an IEE, a call to VOPA, a mediation, a change in classrooms directed by me, a consult with Behavioral Directions paid for by the school system, and one suspension for ‘behavior that could have endangered other children’ (retribution punishment) and acquiring an advocate, we are seeing only a moderate improvement.
