Wheels of Hope: Individuals with Special Needs Learn how to ride a Two Wheeler

I Can Bike

Taking off the training wheels and riding a two-wheeler for the first time is one of the most memorable experiences for a child. Unfortunately, too many children with special needs never get the opportunity to experience the independence associated with riding a two-wheeler.

Recently, Friendship Circle partnered with the iCan Bike program to teach 40 children with special needs to ride a two-wheeler over the course of one week.  Using adaptive bikes and one on one attention, most of the participants were able to ride a two wheeler in less than a week.

36 Children with Special Needs learn to ride two-wheelers

Lose The Training Wheels

When a child rides a bicycle without training wheels for the first time, it is one of the most exciting and memorable experiences in their young life. This summer, Friendship Circle partnered with Lose The Training Wheels to make that experience a reality for children with special needs.

In just five days over 30 children and teens with special needs learned how to ride a two wheeled bike with the help of 50 out-of-breath volunteers. Check out the amazing pictures below.
