The Three Most Amazing Adaptive Sports Centers In The U.S.

If you would have mentioned the words adaptive sports to someone 25 years ago, you most likely would have received a blank or puzzled look. Today, almost every community has adaptive sports programs for baseball, soccer, gymnastics and more. Organizations such as Special Olympics, Miracle League and Top Soccer are now in every state providing amazing sports programs for individuals with special needs. When looking for adaptive sports that where a bit more extreme we came across three organizations that provide some amazing programs. Check out these three organizations that are enabling individuals with disabilities to participate in some of the most challenging sports activities!

New England Disabled Sports

New England Disabled Sports New England Disabled Sports is a national recognized program which provides year round adaptive sport instruction to adults and children with physical and cognitive disabilities. Their programs allow individuals with disabilities to enjoy a boundary-free environment, enjoy outdoor recreation with friends and family, as well as provide access to equipment and instruction that might otherwise be unavailable. New England Disabled Sports offers over 20 sports programs for individuals with disabilities. Programs include Skiing, Snowshoeing, Waterskiing, Cycling, Golfing, Surfing, Sailing, Triathlon, Fishing and Tennis. Website: nedisabledsports.org

National Sports Center for the Disabled

National Sports Center for the Disabled The National Sports Center for the Disabled (NSCD) began in 1970 providing ski lessons for children with amputations for the Children's Hospital of Denver. Based out of Winter Park Resort and Sports Authority Field at Mile High, the NSCD is one of the largest outdoor therapeutic recreation agencies in the world. Each year more than 3,000 children and adults with disabilities participate in programs to learn more about sports and themselves. With specially trained staff and volunteers, and its own adaptive equipment lab, the NSCD teaches a variety of winter and summer sports and activities to individuals with almost any physical, cognitive, emotional or behavioral diagnosis. Sports programs include: Alpine Skiing, Ski Biking, Rock Climbing, Soccer, Lacrosse, Rafting, Sailing, Camping, Horse Back Riding. Website: www.nscd.org

Disabled Sports USA

Disabled Sports USA Since 1967, Disabled Sports USA has focused on one goal: To improve the lives of wounded warriors, youth and adults with disabilities by providing sports and recreation opportunities. Disabilities include those with visual impairments, amputations, spinal cord injury, multiple sclerosis, head injury, cerebral palsy, other neuromuscular/orthopedic conditions, autism and related intellectual disabilities. Each year through Disabled Sports USA serves over 60,000 youth, wounded warriors and adults annually, through a nationwide network of over 100 community-based chapters in 37 states nationwide in over 30 different sports. Offering over 40 different sports including alpine and Nordic skiing, snowboarding, biathlon, kayaking, water skiing, sailing, scuba, surfing, rafting, outrigger canoeing, fishing, hiking, golf, athletics, archery, cycling, running/wheeling, rock climbing, equestrian and others.
