New Pilot Programs Coming to Oak Park and Huntington Woods

Over the past few years, Friendship Circle has received many requests to provide programs in the Huntington Woods/Oak Park area. So, this year, Thanks to a grant from the Jewish Fund we will be launching 3 new programs. The hope is that with the success of these programs, we will be able to provide more programs in upcoming years.

About The Jewish Fund

The Jewish Fund was established in 1997 from the sale proceeds of Sinai Hospital to the Detroit Medical Center. Sinai Hospital was a Jewish community funded facility that grew into one of metropolitan Detroit’s top health care institutions. As a legacy of Sinai Hospital, The Jewish Fund continues the tradition of assuring excellent and compassionate care for those in need in Metropolitan Detroit by awarding grants to help vulnerable individuals improve their health and human condition.

What are the New Programs?

Sports (Oak Park):
Coached by a Sports instructor, participants will practice and play familiar games such as basketball and soccer in a noncompetitive environment. Each week will include warm-ups, stretches, and exercise routines designed to keep everyone healthy and fit.

Social Skills for Teens (Huntington Woods):
Teen Social Skills utilizes group activities, discussion time and occasional outings into the community to practice eye contact, personal space, initiating conversation and other important social skills from a certified social worker. This group will also address social challenges specifically related to the teen years. The program is tailored for teens and young adults who do not require a 1-on-1 volunteer.

Music (Huntington Woods):
This invigorating class features music, movement and rhythm. Participants and their volunteers will enjoy an hour of interactive music and songs.

Where are the Programs Held?

Huntington Woods:  Aish of Huntington Woods

Oak Park: JCC Jimmy Prentis Morris Building
