Friendship Circle Honors the Memory of Dr. Jeffrey Farkas

Jeffrey Farkas

In 1989, the West Bloomfield community was shocked and saddened to learn about the untimely death of one of their own; a young, vibrant pediatrics resident named Dr. Jeffrey Farkas.

Dr. Farkas was murdered at the hands of a home invasion burglar while in residency at the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh.

At the young age of 26, his tragic death made national headlines and sent shock-waves through the local Detroit community. In time, his killer was apprehended, tried and sentenced to life in prison.

About Jeffrey

Dr. Farkas was a West Bloomfield High School alumnus who completed his undergraduate study from University of Michigan and received his medical degree from Wayne State University.

Dr. Farkas graduated with high distinction as Summa Cum Laude, was a member of Alpha Omega Alpha medical honors society and also received the prestigious Anna Rutsky award for outstanding work in pediatrics.

An Everlasting Imprint

His mother, Connie Farkas, recalls “Jeff was told by many friends and colleagues to go into a career that was lucrative. But he always said no. His sole focus was to help children, no matter what.”

The vigor and talent he developed in his short 26 years of life left an everlasting imprint in the hearts and minds of those who knew him; particularly his mother Connie Farkas and sister Beth Borin.

Dr. Jeffrey Farkas Pediatrics

Farkas DedicationInspired by his selflessness, Dr. Farkas’ mother Connie and her husband approached Friendship Circle with a generous donation in his memory. To pay tribute to the memory of Dr. Farkas, the medical office inside of the Henry Ford storefront in Weinberg Village has been decorated with his framed medical degree and a nameplate, designating the room as “Dr. Jeffrey Farkas Pediatrics.”

“Dr. Farkas always wanted to go into a profession where he could help children; it is fitting that his name has been permanently placed on the walls of Friendship Circle”, Executive Director, Bassie Shemtov said.
